In Light of Shadows
A revelation that often came with facing darker thoughts and not judging them. These 10 works represent inner struggles that intensify our daily experiences. Recently I've come to a realization that emotions are neutral, a product of our environment. Yet some emotions are labelled as negative or undesirable. I want to express those feelings in a way that invites the viewer to question their perception of them, to even feel beauty and hope in them. I collaborate with two dancers who never met each other to engage in a contact improv. I asked them to imagine that they are one, as an inseparable frequency. After I photographed them, I modify the color and contrast before printing the images on high-quality fine art paper. I used my fingers to apply pastel to interpret rhymes of color on those images. The tactile component of the process made me feel like the emotional energy flowing from within me to the surface of the paper.
